CLUB AMPHORA

We believe that drinking wine should be enjoyable, satisfying, interesting and fun. Club Amphora exists to enrich the wine experience.

Amphora specialises in the wines from the Langedoc Roussillon region of France where they have been making wine for longer than 26 Centuries.

Phoenicians settled in the region from the sea around 850 to 750 BC, followed by the Greeks. One of their major ports was Agde, where the Herault River flows into the Mediterranean. The Greeks had extensive vineyards in the area from around 600BC.

The Roman Empire became the dominant power in the region in the 3rd Century BC until it fell in 476AD. Thereafter many influences shaped the Region including Knights Templar, Cathars, Pilgrims and religious orders. The monasteries played a major part in preserving and improving wine production.

Now this fascinating region is the world’s biggest vineyard, with some 300,000 hectares of vines in Languedoc and a further 130,000 hectares in Rousillon. Come and share the excitement of Languedoc’s interesting wines with Club Amphora.
